Oldman Smiles on Sequel

“We’re very proud of the film. But we may be doing Smiley’s People, so I might get another go at it.”
Gary Oldman

NME report on the latest suggestion that there will be a sequel to ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ featuring Gary Oldman:

‘Gary Oldman has suggested at the Oscars that a big-screen sequel to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is likely.

The British actor received his first ever Oscar nomination for his portrayal of George Smiley in the John le Carre spy adaptation. He lost out to The Artist star Jean Dujardin as Best Actor, but he has now suggested he may get another chance to win if the follow-up book Smiley’s People is also adapted.

Speaking to BBC News on the red carpet to the Vanity Fair party last night (February 26), Oldman said: “I’m glad that [my nomination] was [for] Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, and we’re very proud of the film. But we may be doing Smiley’s People, so I might get another go at it.”

On losing out to Dujardin, Oldman added: “I guess there’s always another time – I mean, I know why I’ve not been there before, because I never really pushed it or lusted after it or never campaigned for it, so it doesn’t surprise me.”

Pressed on whether he was upset, he laughed: “Devastated! No, I’m fine! I had an instinct that it would probably go to the French – they’ve been winning everything else!”

The Artist won five awards last night, including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director trophies’.
